Godwin Koay

Born in Singapore, in 1987, Godwin received his Bachelor of Arts Fine Arts from Lasalle College of the Arts, Singapore in 2011. His works are often directed towards exploring the possibilities of an artistic practice forged at an interstice with social and political praxis- though at the same time confronting tropes established in prevailing practices involving community, activism, or institutional critique.

Godwin considers the Bamboo Culture Art Residency as an opportunity to find space and time away from Singapore and to examine his practice responding to the new environment. As most of his work has dealt with contexts situated in Singapore, and rather specific local issues and imagery/imaginaries, he would like to explore a new place in parallel, and find or test if his concerns can have resonance elsewhere. He longs to discover local histories of activism and the political in contemporary.
