Yasmine Ostendorf
Yasmine Ostendorf is a cultural policy researcher who researches, curates, stimulates and facilitates art and culture that positively contributes to society; i.e work that explores, questions and addresses our social and environmental responsibility.
In 2012, seconded from Trans Artists (Amsterdam) to Julie’s Bicycle (London), Yasmine Ostendorf founded the Green Art Lab Alliance (GALA), a European knowledge alliance on environmental sustainability for the cultural sector, funded by the European Commission. A passionate interest in culture and sustainability was born and she continued to work as Programme Director for Cape Farewell in London, connecting artists and scientists to work with the topic of climate change.
She is currently (2015) dedicated to work and learn in different countries in Asia, understanding the local needs and wishes for a knowledge alliance on sustainability for the cultural sector in this different context, for which this research forms the foundation. She has been staying in Singapore and Korea for over 4 months, making connections, using local and international networks to identify key players to interview. At Bamboo Curtain Studio she hopes to continue this research for Taiwan: make a mapping of the most pioneering art initiatives engaging with environmental issues and to make an analysis of the needs and wishes from the artists, artsmanagers, policymakers and educators. The ultimate mission is to work with Bamboo Curtain Studio on bringing a valuable, open, sustainable, ambitious, artistic and transparent Green Art Lab Alliance Asia to life.
