Suzuki Akio
From 1996, Suzuki Akio is doing a series of works, named 'Otodate'. This name combines the Japanese word 'oto', meaning sound, with contracted 'nodate', meaning open air tea ceremony. Tea ceremony is an important moment in Japanese tradition, an important issue. It welcomes some people participating in the same space and time. Taking part in this ceremony elevates the time factor to a specific quality, people contact transcend individual interests. His work should be conceived in this structure, sharing this common moment with no class concepts. There are no predeterminations, no hierarchy in the expression of sounds.
Interested by the sounds of the water, he is invited to explore Chu-wei from the city to the river banks an d to find Otodate-steps. Because of their quality for hearing and of their differences (each spot has its own echo or sound amplitude), the audience will experience all the components of the landscape within their diversity and enjoy the very locations.
