On this day we welcome the 19th year of Bamboo Curtain Studio. And we present the new works by our current artists-in-residence, I-Hsuen Chen, Pei-Ju Yeh, and Hidemi Tokutake. The three artists will demonstrate, in three very different ways, how they view Zhuwei, and how they see the world from local perspectives.
Inspired by Traditional Chinese Sansui paintings, Shizuka靜 seeks to capture the underlying pulse of the natural mountainous landscape of Taiwan. Islands of earth sail through a sea of salt, juxtaposed by the surrounding mountains tranquilly clothed in mist. The rawness of the clay coupled with organic lines gestures a humble connection, with each ridge mimicking the unique characteristics of Taiwanese geography.
Hidemi Tokutake is a Japanese ceramic artist. She started her ceramic journey at Seto Ceramic School in Japan. Tokutake then traveled to Australia for five years and obtained her Masters in ceramic at The National Art School in 2014.
