《Manifesto for Arts of Coming Down to Earth》

Art community declares collective commitment to sustainable shift

The Covid-19 pandemic has shown the imbalance between humans and ecosystems,
leaving the global art world in a state of uncertainty. As we face a climate emergency,
this is a pivotal moment to take responsibility for making the arts and culture more
sustainable.

As art and cultural workers, we declare our commitment to transform our institutions.
As scientists and philosophers point out, the current system is so disconnected from
what the Earth can afford that it is functioning off-shore. Our objective is clear:
“going down to Earth” towards a sustainable future for people and biodiversity alike.
We will ensure that we REFUSE, REDUCE, REPAIR, REUSE, REPURPOSE, RECYCLE, RESTORE.

We will RETHINK mobility and the addiction to fast, fossil-intensive ways of
traveling and moving artworks. We will REINVENT our venues, events and actions, creating shelter in alliance with environmental workers, marginalised communities, and those doing caring and healing work, from a perspective of justice and planetary repair.

We will work in international cross disciplinary partnerships with organizations,
practitioners and communities that share the same concerns, for both mutual support
and exchange of best practices, ideas and values.
