Shoko’s work “~Rowing out into the calm sea ~ / Embarkation” has made its first public appearance at Setouchi Triennale 2013. Shoko Aso has mainly created her art works in the form of installation using the material which is indefinite and fluid such as cloth, sand, or bubbles. Main theme of her works are “being” and “presence of emptiness”. In 2016, Shoko is elected to be one of the Creative Talents of Bamboo Curtain Studio, and will have her residency for three weeks starting from March 21st.
Through a short meeting with an audience from Taiwan last summer, and looking back on her own artworks of late years using the color of white, Shoko gradually follows her interest in colors. In her project, Shoko researches to find the image and idea. She will run a workshop about the images of colors for the children in primary schools which she had once worked with junior high schools in Japan. She will also visit the community and have some interviews with the residents. Becoming aware of her oriental sense and view that she subconsciously has, Shoko would like to reach out and grasp something during the residency.
