陳暢 Abby Chen

Abby Chen is the Artistic Director and Curator at Chinese Culture Center and Foundation of San Francisco, responsible for the organization’s creative vision and program management. During her tenure, she helped to shape CCC’s unique curatorial positioning, which highlights art-making process in the areas of site-specific and socially engaged art. Projects under her leadership set out to provide platform and opportunities that encourages imagination and risk-taking.  The ongoing project series she initiated such as Xian Rui (Fresharp) since 2008, is the first of its kind in the country supporting mid-career American artists including Beili Liu and Zheng Chongbin, as well as WOMEN我們, a multi-sites, multi-genre projects exploring sexuality and genderqueer. Among the more than 50 exhibitions and programs curated by Abby at CCF and other institutions in both the U.S. and Asia have been important surveys in contemporary art and issues relevant to Chinese people and the world at large. Her most recent curatorial ventures include Lam Tungpang’s Curiosity Box and Xu Tan’s Social Botany.
