Residency report from Bamboo Curtain Studio, Taiwan by Veronica Frenning
I spent a month at the Bamboo Curtain Studio (Taiwan) in November 2011. It is located in Zhuwei, New Taipei, surrounded by a mountainous landscape along the Danshui River. Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS) encourages cross-cultural exchange and can accommodate multiple artists at once. During the time I was in residence, there were other artists working there from Sardinia, Hong Kong, California, and an aboriginal performer from the Ami tribe in Taiwan.
The Winners of The 4th Emerging Artist Program
Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS) select six national and international artists/groups in the program. It is expected that their projects will bring in new ideas and perspectives and their work will show the diversity of art in the world.
2012 ChengLong Wetlands International Environmental Art Project
Artists from all countries are invited to send a proposal for a site-specific outdoor sculpture to be created during a 25-day artist in residency (April 12 – May 7, 2012) in Cheng Long, Yunlin County, Taiwan. The selected artists create large-scale sculpture installations focused on environmental issues surrounding food production and organic aquaculture.

The artist recently returned from a residency in Taiwan (as part of Bamboo Curtain Studio's Emerging Artist's Programme), where he interviewed practitioners and recorded the places where he found bamboo within Taipei City, Chaiyi and Nantou.
