“Residency Unlimited at Casita Maria Center for Arts and Education” Residency (DEADLINE: MARCH 13TH, 2012)
I spent a month at the Bamboo Curtain Studio (Taiwan) in November 2011. It is located in Zhuwei, New Taipei, surrounded by a mountainous landscape along the Danshui River. Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS) encourages cross-cultural exchange and can accommodate multiple artists at once. During the time I was in residence, there were other artists working there from Sardinia, Hong Kong, California, and an aboriginal performer from the Ami tribe in Taiwan.
Bamboo Curtain Studio (BCS) select six national and international artists/groups in the program. It is expected that their projects will bring in new ideas and perspectives and their work will show the diversity of art in the world.
The artist recently returned from a residency in Taiwan (as part of Bamboo Curtain Studio's Emerging Artist's Programme), where he interviewed practitioners and recorded the places where he found bamboo within Taipei City, Chaiyi and Nantou.
